Champneys
Champneys is a long-standing Florence Roby customer. The brand was chosen by owner Dorothy Purdew when she took over Champneys in 2002.
Laura Sheridan, the brand’s Group Spa Director, says: “Dorothy always took control of the uniforms, right up until her passing in 2024. Appearance and standards were a crucial element of the Champneys brand for her; she was a stickler for uniform standards and so am I. It’s something I discuss with staff in our morning meeting. We check everyone meets uniform standards every day, without fail.”
“Our policy is strict – therapists must have a bun or a plait, no ponytails, and we have a jewellery policy – but we’re this strict for a reason. Uniform is the first impression, the initial thing a guest sees when they come through the doors. The spa is such a personal space, where guests hand over their trust, so we need to instil confidence through professionalism – guests want to feel that they’re being met by someone they can trustfrom that first conversation.”
Champneys now has six locations in the UK, all of which feature Florence Roby uniforms throughout the property. Housekeeping, restaurant staff, front of house and the spa teams all wear bespoke Florence Roby uniforms, as do apprentices and Champneys college students.
“We can’t beat Florence Roby for their choice of sizing – they go up to a 26 as standard and if they can’t accommodate someone, they offer made-to-measure. People come in all shapes and sizes, it’s important that our uniforms do too. The material is really flexible, they’re long lasting, wear well and are reasonably priced. They are also easy to wash, dry quickly and don’t need ironing – being easy to look after is a must for us.”“We have our uniforms branded and embroidered, so they are distinct to us, which is also important to the Champneys brand. Different team members wear different styles, which helps guests to distinguish between them. We are in process of changing management uniforms into a black dress with a smart with a blazer, which is really flattering and further helps guests to differentiate.”
“Even our apprentices and college student also wear Florence Roby uniforms; it helps them feel part of the brand and maintains our uniform standards across the whole portfolio. We strive to give highest customer service standards possibleand appearance is a big part of that. For me, looking clean, fresh and professional at all times really matters.”
